Full Version: HOF: W6 vs Beehive (Sticky)

Okay, we've gotten emails asking about hosting for a W6 at HOF, along with the current Beehive set up. Instead of just emailing people back, and having to email others in the future about the same thing, I'm putting it on the board for everyone.

Dear 'sender/s',
I know some of you are used to W6, and may like it better than Beehive. But, from what I hear, W6's developer has stopped further development of W6, and may not even be offering decent support for it anymore either. I don't see W6 going any further than it is, not unless it's developer passes it off to someone else. All things considered, I'd say people are going to find it increasingly difficult to find new W6 sites in the future.

However, Beehive's developers are furthering their software, and offer support in their forum, by email, and via PM at Teh Forum. In some cases, their developers will actually come to your site and help fix things. Beehive's main developer has done it for HOF more than once. All things considered, I'd say Beehive is a better bet. It's not perfect. Nothing is, but it's the best we've found. And, it's people have proven themself not only reliable, but willing to go that extra mile.

You may have enjoyed W6, but we firmly believe you're better off on Beehive. You not only get more features, but the software itself has a great support system in place, and people who have proven they'll keep at a problem until it's solved. Things don't always get done as fast as we'd like, but they do get done. All this being said, Hangin Out Forums, and our sister site Netutopia Forums, will not be hosting W6. Please stop asking us to host software that is without reliable support, and possibly on its way out.

Thank you.

Paul, I doubt that there is anyone that used W6 that liked it more than I did, but,
everything you said is true...I did everything I could to find another forum using
w6...the one I found, I asked them to set me up, they never did, even after
requesting it 3 times...
As mentioned many times, I always preferred w6...but no longer...
After working with the support group here, and after seeing what
Beehive really has to offer, ya'll did convert my preference over to Beehive...
I don't know who else was the w6 fans, but hope they can soon see the
benefits of Beehive...
Thanks
Billy

We think most were people checking out HOF, debating on whether or not to set up here, and trying to see if we'd be willing to add the W6 format. Rather then keep responding to the same questions over and over, we thought we could answer at least a few by placing something on the board.

We're not upset up about them asking. We understand there are people who like W6. And, it's what they're used to, but with all things considered, we just don't see it as a logical choice.

We thought if they come here and find out where we stand on carrying W6, while they're looking over the forums, then it would help them decide whether or not they want a place/s here, and they wouldn't need to send an email. They'd already know, that's all. :-)

I am probably one of the most experienced USERS of both Beehive and W6. I opened my GJ Drop the Puck in 2004 and really liked the format of W6. One of the advantages of it was the better smiley package it has. However, I have gotten used to Beehive as I have had my Penalty Box on 3 or 4 different Beehive platforms.

Now once you have the WYSIWYG html editor working right on Beehive, it offers a lot of the advantages that W6 offers. I love the copy and paste features where you can just paste in pics and formatted text.

On GoJabber' Beehive, they did have the WYSIWYG editor over a year ago, they upgraded and it was lost in the upgrade. The W6 platform stayed the same at GJ.

I do find some advantages in using the Basic Html editor on here too.

One other advantage of Beehive is that it seems a little quicker than the W6.

Personally I never used W6, but I like using a system I know has a support system from it's developers. From what I hear, W6 no longer does. Big disadvantage in my book.

I am not sure if Mark over at GoJabber was involved in creating that W6 or not, but I don't think he was. They just let the support there go by the wayside and I think their subscription to their web address runs out in a week or so.

Anyway, I'm used to both systems and am comfortable with Beehive.

They probably forgot to reinstall the WYSIWYG editor when they upgraded. When you upgrade Beehive, you have to reinstall the editor each time. We did that ourselves a time or two over the years. During the upgrade process it's an easy thing to slip through the cracks.

Last year when they upgraded, I told them about it and they tried a lot of things but couldn't get it to work. Someone suggested that I use FireFox, which I did. The WYSIWYG editor did show up, but when I tried doing formatted text, it didn't come up the color I chose or the text size. It was doing it here also for a while, and when I brought it up, it was promptly fixed.

I want to thank all the support group here as they do an outstanding job!(nod)

Sounds like they might have tried installing the wrong version of the editor. Beehive is only set up to work with a specific version. If you try using the wrong one, which we've done before ourselves, some of the stuff might work, but then other things don't, or it might not work at all. It just depends on the version of the editor.

The good thing is that it works here. There are some advantages to using the simple HTML editor also. When I bring over some formatted text from an article, sometimes the raw coding appears. This doesn't happen with the basic editor. So there are situations where I use both. That's the beauty of it.
